Kristi . . . Right now I’m reading The Trail Life by Julie Urbanski. The author’s brother-in-law is a friend of mine from college, and recommended I check it out. The book is Julie’s account of her “thru-hike” of the Pacific Crest Trail. I started reading the book partially in prep for my summer hike of Mount Whitney. It got me into the “hiking” mindset, and it was fun to read about places that I got to see on my trip.
Mere . . . I recently started Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and I haven’t been able to put it down. This story is told in chapters that go back-and-forth in time between Italy in the 1960’s and Hollywood in the present-day. The writing is enchanting and the characters are charming. This is a story of love, tragedy, and redemption and it reminds me that life can be both sad and beautiful at the same time.
Bri . . . I’m currently reading Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. In my early twenties, I walked a fine line between the worlds of introverts and extroverts. These days, I’m much more of an introvert. With this book, I’ve found some comfort in my new(ish) disposition, and hope to gain a better understanding of what’s to come in the years ahead.
