Gift Ideas for Pregnant Friends

One of the many things that I have learned on my journey to becoming a first-time mom is…boy do today’s babies need a whole lot of stuff! As my husband and I prepare for the arrival of our little kiddo, our previously minimal home style has been taken over by large boxes of everything imaginable to keep a small human happy.

While I have fully engaged in the organization and planning of all things needed for our little kiddo, I have been blessed to have several family members and friends who have gone out of their way during my pregnancy to remember to ‘treat’ me as well.

Finding things for pregnant ladies is not the easiest thing. You’re going through so many different changes and transitions and I have been so touched at what these amazing people have thought to gift me.

Jewelry and Accessories

No matter what stage of pregnancy, it’s highly likely you’re not really comfortable in your clothes and not really feeling exactly like yourself. Accessories and jewelry are a great gift for pregnant women because it’s something they can add to their new wardrobe and can utilize during and after their kiddo arrives.

Snacks and Edibles

Anything edible is a good choice. Whether you’re in the “I’m starving every minute of the day” period of your pregnancy or you’re suffering through morning sickness and trying to experiment with different foods that might help, getting a gift bag with a variety of treats is always a welcome gift. Bonus Tips: Whole Foods and other stores have fabulous healthy and clean options for those moms that are particular about ingredients.

Relaxation Elements

Finding your zen time during the midst of this crazy life transition is always a challenge. A scented candle or a delicate lotion is a nice way to pamper your pregnant friend with a few relaxing elements that can put her into a state of relaxation.

Cooling Items

No matter what season it is, your friend is likely feeling warm! If you’re like me, I didn’t time things well and now I’m in my final stretch in the heart of summer. My mom and my good friend were so thoughtful to think of how overheated you can get and gifted me personal fans to help stay cool in these final weeks.

Beautification

Nothing is better than a few beauty products to make you feel just a smidge better. Whether it’s an exciting and bold lipstick color or simply a few fix-its (like my Glossier items shown below) – gifting a few makeup treats to your pregnant friend will always be a welcome treat.

The arrival of a new baby is an incredibly special tim, and it’s also a wonderful time to shower baby’s new mama with a few things to keep her feeling supported.

Fabulous Bachelorette Party – Planned in 14 days

This past month I had the honor of helping a very dear friend of mine plan her Bachelorette party. We had the unique circumstance of having a very short timeframe to plan this get-together (due to scheduling conflicts with a number of other friends with Fall weddings) and boy was it a crash-course lesson on how to plan something fabulous….on a very quick schedule!

Throughout the experience, I realized that while an extra few weeks might have a helped a bit, it’s actually quite easy to simplify your party plan (with a little help from friends!) and still make it a special event. Here were the steps I took to make it a success:

  1. Lock in the Date/Time. As soon as I got the news that we had a weekend confirmed, priority number one was to email the invited guests and get the date on the calendar. It was true I had no idea what the party was going to involve, but it was super important to me that we got the word out and were able to get as many girls there as possible. While my gut reaction was to send out a Paperless Post, I wanted to map out the various time slots on the weekend to get a good sense on who could attend specific activities, so instead I put together a simple chart on Google Docs and asked the attendees to mark their availability. As soon as I had responses, it really helped me understand critical mass and fine-tune the points throughout the weekend that would maximize attendance.
  1. Reserve Activities. TripleKnots bestie Meredith graciously jumped on board to help me with some bachelorette party brainstorming. Within a 12-hour period, she had some fantastic Bay Area ideas mapped out and from that list I settled on the primary activity of the weekend—a fabulous day spa trip. Within the next few days, I had the spa activities planned, a table at a cute local restaurant reserved for lunch, and a chocolate and wine tasting lined up. Voila!
  1. Get the Goodies. Now it was time to move on to all the details…which meant a few hours dedicated to some major Etsy research, something that I knew I needed to get ordered if I wanted my items to come in time. After some consideration, I narrowed my Etsy shopping list to: a customized sash (because no bride-to-be’s outfit is complete without a bachelorette sash), personalized hair ties (because I received these at Mere’s bachelorette weekend and LOVED them), and some monogrammed sunhats (because I had been drooling over them on Instagram).

I also made a quick stop at my local Target and scored a major steal when I found these incredibly cute (and large, I may add) reversible beach totes in the clearance section. I knew these would be the perfect accessory to carry our necessities around in at the spa.

I also found a number of goodies to add to my party favors—which were a slightly modified rendition of a “Hangover Kit” but instead of Advil and Band-Aids, I focused on a cuddle-up theme including tea, a snack bar, lip balm and a spot of chocolate.

The final component that I focused on was a few simple touches to add to our dinner table. Meredith (the friend who has good handwriting) joined my planning effort by locating and scripting some adorable place cards, which I added to a simple dinner menu that I developed with the restaurant chef.

Despite it being an incredibly busy 10 days, I was nearly ready for the big weekend.  And the weekend came before I knew it!

We had a lovely time at a local spa, where we enjoyed massages and some girl talk by their pool.

We had a delicious dinner at a new and up-and-coming restaurant, who showered us with fabulous service and free shots, I must add!

I think one of the best things that I took away from these very busy two weeks was: “do not perfect be the enemy of good.” There was no way I was going to be able to pull off details that were worthy of Pinterest or a fabulous three-day trip down to Cabo. Rather, I pulled in my expectations and really focused on maximizing the experience for my dear friend and all our guests.

The outcome? We had a fabulous time!

Cheers to our Bachelorette: Celebrating in the Desert!

This past weekend Bri and Kris traveled down to Palm Springs to celebrate Meredith’s second-to-last weekend as a single woman! With the beautiful backdrop of Palm Springs, we couldn’t have been more excited to celebrate our friend in style at the lovely Villa Carmelita!

The weekend began with pool time and champs, courtesy of the beautiful Bubbly Bar.

Meredith’s fabulous MOH Whitney pulled together thoughtful and creative party favor gifts, including adorable personalized water bottles (perfect for hydrating in the Palm Springs sun), custom hair ties titled “To Have and To Hold…Your Hair Back!” (and yes, they were the fabulous ones that do not crinkle your hair!), and a very practical Emergency Kit filled with bachelorette weekend essentials (Shout Wipes, Chapstick, Advil, etc.).

An aside: that beautiful flower arrangement on the table was courtesy of our bride-to-be’s thoughtful fiancé, Denison!

Customized cocktail napkins, foil straws and candy finished off the festive look.

…and continued with merriment – and a cocktail or three- into the wee hours. Late-night partiers were  treated to this lovely evening view of the courtyard.

Saturday morning continued with more pool time (who wouldn’t at this gorgeous property) and more cocktails, including these beyond fabulous bloody mary’s, which were adorned with a bacon garnish.

Mere Bach (20)

We all got a fantastic throwback to our 20s when the keg cups and ping-pong balls came out. Girls paired up for a game of beer pong, but wait! We have to disinfect the table first! (This is something we never would have thought about in college!)

Mere Bach (22)

Turns out while we’re a bit more conscientious about cleanliness, we aren’t quite as good at the game anymore. It took a bit longer than we expected to wrap up the first match, so we moved on to Flip Cup!

Mere Bach (25)

After flip cup, Whit got the BBQ going and we noshed on a delicious grilled lunch and continued to lounge by the pool.

Saturday evening started with a fabulous toast to our soon-to-be Mrs. Hatch. (Sip, Sip – Hooray!)

Mere Bach (16)

Cocktail hour continued with a “How Well Do You Know Each Other” Q&A game, which included quizzing Meredith on answers provided by her fiancé Denison. They did amazing—it’s a hatch-match made in heaven!

We also each brought along a lingerie gift for Meredith and got to share lots of smiles and laughs as she guessed which piece came from which friend.

A bachelorette weekend always includes about 900+ photos and we had no shame in indulging!

But before we knew it, time was flying by and we were being whisked away to downtown Palm Springs for private dinner at Workshop Kitchen + Bar.

After dinner we grabbed a quick cocktail at the ever-delicious Bootlegger Tiki and finished the night with hours of dancing and drinks at Bar.

This weekend was quarterbacked by Meredith’s fabulous MOH Whit, and we can’t thank her enough for making the trip so special.

The weekend also included lots of support/help from Meredith’s family and besties, including: Kendra, Colleen, Jill, Kristen, Lauren, Nida, Rachel and Sevana!
