DIY Hot Chocolate Mug

Happy New Year, Triple Knot readers! Hoping that you had a wonderful time ringing in 2016 with family and friends. While I’m excited to start the new year, I always get a smidge bit sad when the winter holiday season has passed (since it’s by far my most favorite time of the year!). One thing that I love about the winter holiday season is it provides a time for you to not only get together with family and friends, but also to emphasize to them how much they mean to you.

I’m blessed to not only have amazing friends, but also creative ones (including my fellow TK authors!). We were all spoiled this year by the most adorable gift set from Col, one of our high school friends, which was just too cute for words and a great gift for the winter season.

Enter the DIY Hot Chocolate Mug!

DIY Hot Cocoa Mug 1

Col started with picking up these classic Kate Spade coffee mugs (gotta love Home Goods!). She added in a chocolate and marshmallow spoon stirrer and an adorable container with hot chocolate mix…and oh what is that? Yes, a mini bottle of peppermint schnapps!

She picked up cellophane bags and some seasonal jute twine, and created the most adorable winter-themed gift that we all ooo-ed and ahh-ed over.  Even more fun, we exchanged photos as we each dug into our hot chocolate mug and have adorable Kate Spade mugs to remember our friendship.

What I loved about this gift was the versatility of it. It’s a great option for a hostess gift, for a white elephant exchange, or a co-worker.  It’s a gender-neutral gift, and one that can be styled to different seasons throughout the year.

Thank you Col for our adorable treats, and for giving us another great gift idea!

Feeling Thankful

We often take for granted the smaller, both tangible and non-tangible, things in our lives. Especially in these winter months, with the hustle-and-bustle of holidays beginning, we forget to take pause and appreciate the important people, things and moments around us.

Thanksgiving is a natural prompt to think about what you are grateful for and an opportunity for you to share your thanks with others. This year, as you come together with your family and friends to feast and celebrate, we hope you will think about what you are thankful for.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to share what we’re feeling thankful for this year!

Bri… I’m thankful for our readers! Thank you to everyone who supports our blog. It’s a fun project for us and we hope you’ll continue to get as much joy out of the content as we do putting it together for you. As always, we welcome your feedback on what you’d like to see more -or less- of in this blog. Thank you, again!

Kristi… I’m thankful for the time that I’m able to share with my best friends and blog partners, Meredith and Bri. Like our readers, our lives are filled to the brim with commitments and responsibilities (not to mention geographical barriers). Time is often hard to come by in our day-to-day schedules. The blog is not only a creative outlet for me, but treasured time where I’m able to connect with two of my best friends.

Mere… Love. This may sound cheesy, but it is completely true. This year, I am feeling especially grateful for the love I have felt from family and friends. With my wedding on the horizon, I have felt incredible amounts love at each celebratory moment. I am especially thankful for the love and friendship from fellow TK bloggers and high school bestie’s Bri and Kristi!

What are you feeling thankful for? We hope you’ll share your gratitude with us!

Budget Friendly Gift from Rent the Runway

Recently a very good friend of mine got engaged and I couldn’t be happier for her and her amazing fiancé!  We got together to go over all the details, including her engagement story, preliminary plans and of course, her beautiful ring! Being a newlywed that had just been down the wedding-planning road, I had tons of tidbits that I was eager to share with her. That being said, I know it can be overwhelming to get advice when you haven’t even started to think through your wedding, so I wanted to save the bulk of my tips for the right time.

I did however, share with her the amazing experience that I had with Rent the Runway. As an engaged lady, this dress rental service saved my bacon when it came to finding the perfect dress, at a reasonable cost, for the many social events that accompany today’s weddings. Even more so, I saved bundles of money after signing up for Rent the Runway’s Pro Membership service. I have never been a fan of signing up for membership or subscription services, because I never feel like I truly take advantage of the terms to make it valid. This has not been the case for Rent the Runway.

The cost is $29.95 for an annual subscription and the things that are included are:

  • Free Shipping & Free Insurance for all your Rent the Runway purchases ($15 value)
  • Free Dress rental on your birthday ($50 value)

In short, if you plan to rent two dresses a year, you break even—if you rent three or more, you save money! For me, I rented tons of dresses throughout my engagement and wedding months, so this was a great deal for me. Even more so, I saved time (something you’ll always need more of when you’re planning a wedding) by not having to go to countless shopping centers and trying on plenty of dresses that “just weren’t quite right”.

After reflecting on how much Rent the Runway helped me, I wanted to encourage my friend to consider it, so I hopped onto the Rent the Runway website and was excited to find that they sell gift cards! The website offers gift cards in $25 increments, so I added a card to my cart in the hopes that my friend will be able to purchase PRO membership for her special year.

There are two options for your gift card—sending it directly via email to the recipient, or having an actual card sent to your recipient, or you, via U.S. mail. Given I was scheduled to see my friend soon and wanted to personalize by gift by presenting it to her I person, I opted to have the card mailed to me.

Rent the Runway never disappoints me—the checkout process was seamless, and my PRO membership even qualified me for free shipping. The card arrived promptly in a beautiful pink-toned and gold-embossed envelope. Perfect packaging if you’re going to send the card directly to its recipient.

The gift card itself comes on a floral card insert, on high-quality stationary with a cute feminine touch.

The back of the floral card includes the basic details on how Rent the Runway works, which is helpful for recipients that are not familiar with the company and how it works.

In my opinion the packaging that Rent the Runway sends the gift card in, speaks for itself and no additional touches are required, but since I was seeing my friend in person, I went ahead and wrapped the envelope in some decorative paper to add a personal touch.

In the end, my friend not only loved the care that I put into the packaging, but is looking forward to using her treat for a fabulous dress of her choice. Do you a good gift idea for your girlfriends? Would love to hear more ideas.
