Gift Ideas for Pregnant Friends

One of the many things that I have learned on my journey to becoming a first-time mom is…boy do today’s babies need a whole lot of stuff! As my husband and I prepare for the arrival of our little kiddo, our previously minimal home style has been taken over by large boxes of everything imaginable to keep a small human happy.

While I have fully engaged in the organization and planning of all things needed for our little kiddo, I have been blessed to have several family members and friends who have gone out of their way during my pregnancy to remember to ‘treat’ me as well.

Finding things for pregnant ladies is not the easiest thing. You’re going through so many different changes and transitions and I have been so touched at what these amazing people have thought to gift me.

Jewelry and Accessories

No matter what stage of pregnancy, it’s highly likely you’re not really comfortable in your clothes and not really feeling exactly like yourself. Accessories and jewelry are a great gift for pregnant women because it’s something they can add to their new wardrobe and can utilize during and after their kiddo arrives.

Snacks and Edibles

Anything edible is a good choice. Whether you’re in the “I’m starving every minute of the day” period of your pregnancy or you’re suffering through morning sickness and trying to experiment with different foods that might help, getting a gift bag with a variety of treats is always a welcome gift. Bonus Tips: Whole Foods and other stores have fabulous healthy and clean options for those moms that are particular about ingredients.

Relaxation Elements

Finding your zen time during the midst of this crazy life transition is always a challenge. A scented candle or a delicate lotion is a nice way to pamper your pregnant friend with a few relaxing elements that can put her into a state of relaxation.

Cooling Items

No matter what season it is, your friend is likely feeling warm! If you’re like me, I didn’t time things well and now I’m in my final stretch in the heart of summer. My mom and my good friend were so thoughtful to think of how overheated you can get and gifted me personal fans to help stay cool in these final weeks.

Nothing is better than a few beauty products to make you feel just a smidge better. Whether it’s an exciting and bold lipstick color or simply a few fix-its (like my Glossier items shown below) – gifting a few makeup treats to your pregnant friend will always be a welcome treat.

The arrival of a new baby is an incredibly special tim, and it’s also a wonderful time to shower baby’s new mama with a few things to keep her feeling supported.

DIY Hot Chocolate Mug

Happy New Year, Triple Knot readers! Hoping that you had a wonderful time ringing in 2016 with family and friends. While I’m excited to start the new year, I always get a smidge bit sad when the winter holiday season has passed (since it’s by far my most favorite time of the year!). One thing that I love about the winter holiday season is it provides a time for you to not only get together with family and friends, but also to emphasize to them how much they mean to you.

I’m blessed to not only have amazing friends, but also creative ones (including my fellow TK authors!). We were all spoiled this year by the most adorable gift set from Col, one of our high school friends, which was just too cute for words and a great gift for the winter season.

Enter the DIY Hot Chocolate Mug!

DIY Hot Cocoa Mug 1

Col started with picking up these classic Kate Spade coffee mugs (gotta love Home Goods!). She added in a chocolate and marshmallow spoon stirrer and an adorable container with hot chocolate mix…and oh what is that? Yes, a mini bottle of peppermint schnapps!

She picked up cellophane bags and some seasonal jute twine, and created the most adorable winter-themed gift that we all ooo-ed and ahh-ed over.  Even more fun, we exchanged photos as we each dug into our hot chocolate mug and have adorable Kate Spade mugs to remember our friendship.

What I loved about this gift was the versatility of it. It’s a great option for a hostess gift, for a white elephant exchange, or a co-worker.  It’s a gender-neutral gift, and one that can be styled to different seasons throughout the year.

Thank you Col for our adorable treats, and for giving us another great gift idea!

Give a Little Bit: Charitable Holiday Activities

‘Tis the Season for Giving! Below are two ways that we gave back this month.

For our annual holiday get-together, Meredith, Kristi, our dear friend Col and I meet up for a fun activity, a meal and gift exchange. Sometimes the activity is a round of wine tasting. (OK, who are we kidding, most of the time it’s wine tasting!)

However, this year we opted for an afternoon tea and an evening of holiday card making. By the end of the craft session, we made two dozen festive cards, which were then bundled up and sent to Cards for Hospitalized Kids, a charitable organization headquartered in Illinois that “spreads hope, joy & magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards.”

The website has simple guidelines for card-making; for example, while it’s fine for some holiday cards to say “Merry Christmas,” the organization also recommends phrases such as “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings” so that cards can be distributed to kids that do not celebrate Christmas. It was a fun way to unleash some crafty scrapbook-like skills for a great organization.

If this activity appeals to you, note that it can be done year-round! Cards for Hospitalized Kids accepts general cards with uplifting messages, as well as cards for other major holidays, and distributes those cards throughout the year.

For the gift exchange portion of the evening, I had asked my friends for toy donations for Toys for Tots. Finding a toy donation site was easy — all it took was filtering by location on the website. The guidelines for the types of items are quite vague, but generally speaking, the recommendation is to donate new, gender-neutral, unwrapped items. Also, items that work for older youth, such as a soccer ball, paint set or a board game, are usually in lower supply / higher demand.

My dear friends generously gifted board games and an outdoor daypack adventure kit. (Thank you very much!) The toys were dropped off at my local Toys R Us on December 13th.

If you’ve given back this holiday season, or at any other time of the year, we’d love to hear about it! We’re always on the lookout for more inspirational activities and ideas. Please leave a comment below. Happy Holidays!
